UAP Law Students Shine at National Research Conferences

Students of the Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific (UAP), achieved outstanding success at two prestigious national law conferences.

Mehrajun Sakin and Proma Debnath, students of 3rd Year, 2nd Semester, secured the 1st Runner-Up position at the Undergraduate Law Symposium Spring 2026, organized by the Department of Law, North South University in collaboration with the Center for Legal Research, NSU.

Their research paper, titled “Abuse of Rights and the UNSC Veto: Good-Faith Obligations in Humanitarian Crises in the Post-2024 Era,” focused on a major contemporary issue in international law and was highly appreciated for its insightful presentation and critical legal analysis.

In another achievement, Razwan Ahamed, a 4th-year student of the Department, received the Outstanding Paper Award at the 3rd IUB Undergraduate Research Law Conference.

Among 40 researchers from 20 universities, his paper titled “Ensuring Dignity and Integrity of Female Bodies during Autopsy: Legal and Ethical Gaps in Bangladesh” stood out for its academic excellence and relevance.

The UNESCO Madanjeet Singh South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (UMSAILS), University of Asia Pacific (UAP), successfully concluded its Spring School 2026 through a closing ceremony held on 6 May 2026 at the CCULB Resort & Convention Hall, Kuchilabari, Ulukhola, Kaliganj, Gazipur.

Mr. Alamzeb Fajad Ahmed, Senior Vice Chairman of Board of Trustees (BOT), UAP, attended the closing program as the Chief Guest. Architect Mahbuba Haque, Member, BOT; Mr. Qayum Reza Chowdhury, Member, BOT; Eng. M. Abu Taher, Member, BOT; Prof. Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, Acting Vice Chancellor, UAP; Barrister Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Coordinator, UMSAILS; Barrister Ehsan Abdullah Siddiq, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; and Dr. Noor-E-Medina Suraiya Jesmin, Head, Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP, also attended the program.

Among others, Mr. Md. Saleh Akram, Assistant Professor; Mr. Mahmudul Hasan Sabuz, Lecturer; and Ms. Sunjida Islam Keya were present at the closing session.

The five-day residential program was organized by the South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS) in partnership with the Centre for Law, Governance & Policy (CELGAP) and the Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP. The Spring School began on 2 May 2026 and brought together around 60 law students from different universities across the South Asian region.

This year’s theme, “Law, Conflict, and Constitutional Challenge: Global and Domestic Challenges in a Transforming World,” highlighted contemporary global and domestic legal issues, constitutional crises, conflict resolution, human rights protection, and challenges in governance within rapidly changing socio-political contexts. The program created an engaging academic platform for regional dialogue, critical analysis, and collaborative learning among participants.

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Sharif Bhuiyan, Director, SAILS and Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, as the Chief Guest. Barrister Mohammad Mashiur Rahman Sabuj, Chairman, Centre for Law, Governance & Policy (CELGAP), attended as the Special Guest. The session was presided over by Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Coordinator, UMSAILS LLM Program and Deputy Director, SAILS. Dr. Noor-E-Medina Suraiya Jesmin, Head, Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP, also attended the program.

During the five-day Spring School, participants took part in intensive lectures, interactive discussions, and academic sessions conducted by renowned academics, legal experts, and practitioners. The resource persons included Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Acting Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka; Mr. Quazi Mahfujul Hoque Supan, Associate Professor, Department of Law, University of Dhaka; Barrister Ehsan Abdullah Siddiq, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Barrister Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Coordinator, UMSAILS, UAP and Deputy Director, SAILS; Mr. Shahariar Sadat, Deputy Executive Director, Centre for Peace and Justice, Brac University; Barrister Imran Abdullah Siddiq, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Dr. Masrur Salekin, District and Sessions Judge, Bangladesh Judicial Service; Dr. Mohammad Atique Rahman, Associate Professor, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka; Dr. Nabila Idris, Academic and Human Rights Advocate; Mr. Shafiqul Alam, Former Press Secretary to the chief adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh; and Dr. Md. The successful completion of Spring School 2026 reaffirmed UMSAILS and UAP’s commitment to advancing legal education, constitutional discourse, human rights awareness, and regional academic collaboration in South Asia.

A study tour and court visit is organized by the Department of Law and Human Rights as a regular co-curricular activity for the students of the 8th semester (Fall-2025), Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific. The event was coordinated by Mr. Mahmudul Hasan Sabuz, and Ms. Subah Samiha Afrid both Lecturers of the Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific.

The key objectives included:

* To enhance students’ practical understanding of court procedures by exposing them to various stages of judicial proceedings

* To provide direct interaction with legal professionals, including District and Sessions Judges and the Legal Aid Officers, Lawyers and practitioners to motivate and guide students in strategizing their academic and legal careers.

* To broaden students’ cultural and social perspectives through visits to diverse regions such as Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar, thereby enriching their outlook on society, culture, and community dynamics.

A number of civil and criminal courts were visited to provide hands-on experience of proceeding. Sessions were conducted by the District and Sessions Judge of Bandarban and Cox's Bazar Districts respectively in their Court Conference rooms. Additionally, Lawyers and other judicial officers interacted to share their experiences and introduce students to different legal career paths.

A Discussion Session on The Prospects and Challenges of Law Profession

A discussion session on "The Prospects and Challenges of the Legal Profession" was organized for newly admitted LL.B. (Hons.) students of the University of Asia Pacific. The session was arranged by Ms. Sunjida Islam Keya, Lecturer & convener, Cultural Club, Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific and UAP Law Cultural Club, Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific.

The key objectives included:

● Providing insights into different career paths such as advocacy, judiciary, corporate law, and legal academia.

● Addressing the challenges law graduates may face, including job market competition, ethical responsibilities, and the need for practical skills.

● Encouraging students to actively engage in their studies and professional networking to enhance their career prospects.

The session featured a lecture by Mr. Justice A.F.M Abdur Rahman, Hon’ble Former Judge, High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, who discussed the evolving landscape of the legal profession. After that, alumni of the department attended the session virtually to share their experiences and introduce students to different legal career paths, followed by a small cultural arrangement.

UAP Law Orators Crowned Champions at the 3rd NILS National Legal Debate Championship 2026

The University of Asia Pacific (UAP) proudly congratulates the UAP Law Orators of the Department of Law and Human Rights for emerging as Champions of the 3rd NILS National Legal Debate Championship (NNLDC) 2026, organized by NILS Bangladesh. Competing against 32 teams from universities across Bangladesh, this prestigious national victory stands as a significant milestone for the university.

The championship centered on Cyber Security Laws, demanding advanced legal insight, analytical precision, and persuasive advocacy. Throughout the competition, the UAP Law Orators embodied their guiding motto—“Voice with Vision, Argument with Impact”—by presenting well-structured arguments grounded in legal foresight, contemporary relevance, and strategic reasoning.

The champion team comprised Soyd Merajul Islam (7th Semester), Sara Mustafi Promi (5th Semester), and Sammo Mondol Kotha (5th Semester). Their remarkable performance was achieved under the supervision of Ms. Tania Mustari, Lecturer, Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP, whose academic mentorship and guidance played a crucial role in shaping the team’s success.

Throughout the tournament, the team demonstrated outstanding legal reasoning, strong cyber and digital literacy, confident advocacy, and exceptional teamwork. Their victory not only highlights the individual excellence of the debaters but also reflects the robust academic standards and vibrant co-curricular culture of the Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP.

The continuous success of UAP law students at both national and international levels continues to make the university proud and reinforces its reputation for excellence in legal education. This championship triumph serves as an inspiration for future legal minds and marks another proud chapter in UAP’s growing legacy of achievement.

Team UAP Secures 4th Place at 10th Bangladesh Jessup Moot Court Competition 2026

The University of Asia Pacific (UAP) proudly congratulates Team UAP from the Department of Law and Human Rights on emerging as the 4th Best Team at the 10th Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2026, held from 22 to 24 January 2026 at the American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB).

In addition to the team’s outstanding performance, Narzis Tasnim Chowdhury Autree secured 5th position in the Final Oralist Ranking, while Md. Mahfuzar Rahman achieved 24th position among 108 participants. A total of 54 teams from public and private universities across the country participated in this prestigious competition.

The team will represent Bangladesh at the International Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C., USA, in April 2026.

A Special Lecture on Accelerating Global governance through multilateral systems: The role of the United Nations in establishing the rule of law in Asia and Africa

On 19 January 2026, the Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) successfully organized a distinguished lecture delivered by Dr. A. H. Monjurul Kabir, Senior Policy and UN System Coordination Adviser at UN Women Headquarters, New York, USA. The lecture was titled “Accelerating Global Governance through Multilateral Systems: The Role of the United Nations in Establishing the Rule of Law in Asia and Africa.

Dr. Kabir critically examined the multilateral approach of international law as a foundational mechanism for promoting global governance, democracy, and good governance. He highlighted the evolving role of the United Nations in strengthening the rule of law, particularly in the Global South, with focused insights on Asia and Africa. The lecture emphasized the importance of inclusive institutions, accountability, and international cooperation in addressing governance challenges. Special attention was given to the Bangladesh context, where Dr. Kabir discussed issues of fair elections, democratic consolidation, and legal reforms within the broader framework of international law. He underscored how UN-led initiatives and multilateral engagement can support national efforts to uphold democratic values and institutional integrity.

The lecture was highly interactive and intellectually enriching, offering students and faculty valuable perspectives on contemporary global governance and the practical relevance of international law in shaping just and democratic societies.
